Then we will read Saving Jesus From Those Who Are Right: Rethinking what it means to be Christian, a recent book by Carter Heyward. Both are available on the internet, in paperback, and we'll try to have copies in the Guild Room. Women, please come and join the circle! You are very welcome! Providence College
Chorus: I Cantori
January 16 is "Pulpit Exchange Sunday" for the Brookline Episcopal Churches. The preacher at the 10:30 am service at All Saints will be the Rev. Pamela L. Werntz from St. Paul's Church. At this service, we will welcome I Cantori, a select chorus of 18 young women and men from Providence College. Christian Brocato of All Saints has arranged for the choir to be with us that day. The chorus will sing fifteen minutes of choral prelude music beginning at 10:15 am and additional music throughout the service.
I Cantori has performed in numerous countries in Europe as well as New York, Washington D.C. and other major cities along the east coast. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Michele Holt, Assistant Professor of Music at Providence College and the National President of the American Choral Directors Association, an organization of over 15,000 professional choral directors throughout the U.S. David Norfrey, the chorus' accompanist and music instructor at Providence College, will accompany I Cantori. The Providence College Alumni Association will invite alums from the college who live in the Boston area to worship with us that day. Please join us.
Sacred Concert Returns
After a year's interruption, the All Saints Choir resumes its annual series of SACRED CONCERTS OF REMEMBRANCE under the direction of Donald Teeters, on Sunday, February 27, 2005, at 4:00 pm. This year, as a special treat and ornament, the choir will be joined by our Schola, Keith Glavsh's wonderful group, in performances of works alone and in collaboration with the adults.
Robert Honeysucker, joining with the Schola, will be a major musical presence in a lively Spiritual arrangement which memorably "rocked" a Sunday morning service last year. Everyone's favorite soprano Jessica Cooper will be soloist in Mendelssohn's Cantata Hear my Prayer (it contains that paradigmatic Romantic air which soothed the hearts of generations of Victorian church-goers, O for the wings of a dove). Bach's great double chorus motet Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf will serve as a centerpiece for the afternoon. Other great musical treats will also be included. Save the date. This is an event you don't want to miss!
Donate flowers to honor a loved one or special occasion such as a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or graduation. We seek donors for Sundays from September to June. To schedule a date, please contact Doreen Vittori at 617-566-5800.
