Music at All Saints Parish Sunday, November 26, 2006
From All Saints Music Director Donald Teeters

On the last Sunday of the church year, we salute Christ the Sovereign in all of our musical offerings. The choir anthem at the Offertory is the great English, 20th century composer William Walton's setting of George Herbert's triumphant imagery:

"Let all the world in every corner sing,
My God and King! . . .
The church with psalms must shout,
No door can keep them out!"

Many fine composers have set this text. Walton's is one of the best.

The hymns will all address the kingship theme, as well. They are:

#74 - "Blest be the King whose coming" sung to the tune we always sing at the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the text, "All glory, laud and honor."

#435 - "At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow," a 19th century text to another one of those great tunes of Ralph Vaughan Williams.

#450 - "All hail the power of Jesus' Name," a hymn well-known to all protestant congregations, and a fine way to depart the church on this very special Sunday liturgically, and a very special one in our national life as well.

At the Communion, we will have a special treat. Soprano Jessica Cooper will perform a little known sacred song by a composer known far better for his grand, grand operas, Giacomo Puccini.

This is Sunday not to be missed.
