A story about how everything came to be
(From the Gospel of John, Chapter 1, verses 1-18)
In the beginning was the Sacred Story. The Story was with God. In fact, the Story was God. God's Story was in the beginning with God. All things came to be - even life itself! - because of God's Story. The life that has come from God's Story is holy. God's Story lights up the lives of God's people, especially the places in their lives that feel dark and scary. The light from God's Sacred Story is so strong that darkness itself cannot overpower it.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came to tell everyone about how God's Story lights up people's lives. John wanted everyone to believe that. And John also wanted everyone to know that God's Story had someone very, very special in it. God's Story included someone named Jesus. John told the people that Jesus would feel like God's "True Light."
God's True Light did come into the world, and the world came alive in new ways! But not everyone liked the True Light of God. Some tried to turn it off. But many people did welcome the True Light of God into their lives. They came to believe that it could completely transform their lives. These believers became God's children, and God loved them very, very much.
And so people became part of God's Story and that has made God's Story come alive in wonderful and magnificent and beautiful ways! God's Story is full of grace. It is a free gift to everyone, given in love. No one has ever seen God. But God's Story is everywhere, making God known. And we - God's children - are forever part of God's Story. Thanks be to God!
