Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Thank you for the wonderfully affirmative response you have given to our first edition of the All Saints Weekly. We received many emails and face-to-face responses that tell us that you are appreciating this weekly spiritual resource and preparation for Sunday worship.

Here is a comment typical of those that we received:

"This is an absolutely terrific idea. I really appreciate the weekly information and the opportunity to directly tap into the readings. I shall keep the information at the top of my email page, so I am reminded daily to prepare myself. I am sure that others will be similarly appreciative."

As this reader mentioned, you may wish to keep the All Saints Weekly at the top of your email page or print out the Scripture readings and the rest of this newsletter and refer to them during the week.

THEME FOR THE WEEK:

The Gospel for the weekend of October 28-29 is the story of the blind beggar Bartimaeus. Jesus asks Bartimaeus, "What do you want me to do for you?" Spiritual writers through the centuries have urged us to put ourselves in the place of Bartimaeus and to hear Christ directing that question to us. What do I need now? What is deficient in my life that God can fill up? What problem or difficulty am I wrestling with that needs God's help to resolve? The message of today's Gospel is that we can come to God as we are knowing that "the Lord hears the cry of the poor." October 28-29 is Gift Sunday weekend. During our weekend liturgies, we will have an opportunity to pledge to make a tangible return to the Lord for the many ways that God has answered our prayers and filled our lives with abundant love.

My prayer for each of us this week is that we have a growing sense that God answers our prayers, as Christ answered the prayer of Bartimaeus.

Sincerely,

Rector
