Dear Parishioners and Friends,

We are receiving a wonderful response to the first two issues of the All Saints Weekly. Here is some feedback to our e-newsletter that I want to share with you:

"Bravo! What a wonderful enhancement. I hadn't gotten around to reading this until tonight since we had been out of town. The week's passages were especially meaningful to read because we had missed regular services this week due to a family reunion. I have often wanted to read passages ahead of services, but have only infrequently done so, for just the reasons you mentioned: the extra effort to track it all down. Now, I have been able to read this week's passages after the fact, as a catch up. Don Teeters' description of the music was an added pleasure to read. Thank goodness for David Evett's 'required reading' explanation of the Chorale! Many thanks."

I was pleased to hear that All Saints Weekly can be a great resource not only before the Sunday service, but afterwards as well. Back issues of the Weekly will be archived on the All Saints website.

THEME FOR THE WEEK:

The Gospel for the weekend of November 4-5 is Matthew's account of the Sermon on the Mount. This famous passage is sometimes called the "Beatitudes" because Jesus describes those who are beata, the Latin word for blessed. Those whom Jesus calls "blessed" are not the rich, the powerful, the sleek and the fast. Jesus upsets the customary thinking of his time (and ours) by focusing on those who are not always rewarded in this life for their courage and compassion. Blessed are the poor in spirit, the peacemakers, those who hunger for justice, he says. The Gospel is a call to align our values with the values of Jesus and to honor those who truly advance God's compassionate care the poor and lowly.

This Gospel passage is very appropriate as we celebrate All Saints Sunday and give thanks for the ordinary people of every generation who have given their lives in faithful service. In a special way we will remember our beloved dead whose names will be enrolled in the Book of Remembrance. We will celebrate the 112th anniversary of the founding of our parish, give thanks for all who have gone before us and we renew our pledge to live as Christ's disciples today.

Sincerely,

Rector
