November 6, 2006 Dear Parishioners and Friends, Thank you for your feedback on the first three issues of the All Saints Weekly. I am happy that you are finding our e-newsletter a helpful spiritual resource. Here is another comment I received from a parishioner: This is a brilliant idea! Please congratulate the person who came up with it. On days that I am counting, reading the lesson or greeting, I don't have time or the mindfulness to meditate on the other lesson, gospel or music. This new addition called All Saints Weekly will afford me the opportunity to do just that during the week before the Sunday Eucharist. I expect the opportunity will enhance my spiritual life in significant ways and for that I am grateful. So, many thanks to all involved for such good work! Thank you to my colleagues on the staff for their weekly contributions, June Santosa for formatting the All Saints Weekly and Mary Downes for sending it out to you. THEME FOR THE WEEK: The Gospel for the weekend of November 11-12 contains a powerful teaching of the whole-hearted generosity that should characterize our lives as followers of Christ: "He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, 'Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.'" In this stewardship season, the poor widow challenges us to align our values with the values of Christ. This year, as we focus our stewardship education on "Sabbath: Sacred Time" we respond to the challenge of discovering God in the way we spend our time. Our challenge is to move from an over-scheduled, hectic, and distracted "busyness" to experiencing time as a sacred gift from God. Actually, we want to sense that all of life -- our time, talent, and treasure -- are sacred gifts from God. If we truly appreciate the great gifts we have received, then we will respond with the generous spirit of the widow in the Gospel. This Sunday is New Member Sunday. We invite newcomers for whom All Saints has become their spiritual home to come forward during our worship services to be welcomed into our parish community. Sincerely,
